Shown to Scale is a New York-based women’s clothing brand established by designer Silke in 2010. The brand started out in when Silke, who was then working for Marc Jacobs, overheard that one of her friends is closing her vintage shop located in Brooklyn. In an almost knee-jerk reaction, she bought the shop from her friend and had plans to develop her own clothing brand as a side project.
She conceptualized her line from the ground up. She literally got nothing to work on but two racks, a table and a floor to sit on. She named the brand Shown to Scale and had quite an eventful launch in 2010. Eventually, sales picked up and the brand’s customer base grew together with the brand.
Despite a lack of formal sewing training, Silke was able to master the art of stitching and within just a year, she was able to produce two in house collections for Made New York, another one of her apparel line. But she later rebranded it to Shown to Scale in 2011. Today, Shown to Scale show no signs of stopping dominating the women’s apparel market and continues its success, opening a series of shops across the country, as well as in Japan and Europe.
Shown to Scale apparel is inspired by vintage fashion, 80s and 90s television and scene kids. Shown to Scale is also inspired by standout fashion and compelling prints.
Shown to Scale features an exciting array of women’s apparel including loads of form fitting floral dresses, tie dye dresses, maxi dresses, plaid maxi skirts, cropped tops, sheer tops, fringed tops, and so much more. Shown to Scale is all for starting the trend, not following passing fads.
